ENGROSSED SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 22

• Proposes amendment to Oklahoma Constitution by adding Section 4A to Article VII-B to modify Chief Justice appointment procedures.

• Governor shall appoint Chief Justice with advice and consent of Senate, effective April 1, 2015.

• If nominee is a sitting Supreme Court Justice, Judicial Nominating Commission review is not required; all other nominees must follow standard nomination procedures.

• Directs Secretary of State to refer amendment to voters for approval or rejection.

• President Pro Tempore of Senate must file resolution with Secretary of State and Attorney General immediately upon passage.
