HB 1275 Summary

• General Elections for school board members shall be held on the first Tuesday in April of each year.

• Primary Elections for school board members shall be held on the second Tuesday in February of each year, or on the same day as the Presidential Preferential Primary if held in February.

• If only two candidates qualify, both names appear on the General Election ballot in April.

• If more than two candidates qualify, all names appear on the Primary Election ballot in February, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the General Election ballot in April; a candidate receiving more than 50% of Primary votes is elected to office.

• Levy elections on school funding shall be held on the second Tuesday in February, or on the same day as the Presidential Preferential Primary if held in February; school boards may call special elections on matters authorized by law.

• Act becomes effective November 1, 2015.
