HB 1476 Summary

• Deletes steno-mask reporting as an authorized method for court reporters and allows the Supreme Court to prescribe transcript fees instead of the fixed $3.50 per page rate.

• Requires court reporters to deliver electronic copies of transcripts directly to requesting parties by email or other agreed means in courts where electronic transcripts and exhibits have been implemented.

• Authorizes court reporters and clerks to destroy exhibits in domestic relations cases after 20 years of inactivity and in other civil cases after 10 years of inactivity.

• Establishes procedures for transferring electronic exhibits and notes of deceased court reporters to the trial court administrator or court clerk, and requires terminated court reporters to deliver one copy of all electronic exhibits and notes to the trial court administrator or court clerk.

• Makes effective November 1, 2015.
