HB 1673 - Oklahoma Death with Dignity Act

• Creates the "Oklahoma Death with Dignity Act" allowing qualified terminally ill adults to request medication from physicians to end their lives in a humane and dignified manner.

• Establishes eligibility requirements: patient must be 18+, Oklahoma resident, capable of making healthcare decisions, have a terminal disease expected to cause death within 6 months, and make both oral and written requests at least 15 days apart.

• Requires attending physician and consulting physician to confirm terminal diagnosis; mandates psychiatric/psychological counseling if either physician suspects impaired judgment; prohibits medication prescription until all requirements are met.

• Provides immunity from civil, criminal, and professional liability for individuals acting in good-faith compliance; protects patients' right to rescind requests at any time; prohibits insurance and contract provisions from being conditioned on or affected by requests.

• Makes it a felony to forge, alter, or destroy requests or rescissions; governmental entities can recover costs incurred when deaths occur in public places; effective date November 1, 2015.
