HB 1850 Summary

• Amends 74 O.S. 2011, Section 1332 to make persons on maternity leave eligible to receive benefits from the short-term disability plan.

• State and Education Employees Group Insurance Board administers a Disability Insurance Program consisting of long-term and short-term disability plans for state employees employed at least one month and enrolled in the Health Insurance Plan.

• Long-term disability benefits require employees to exhaust all sick leave; short-term disability is available to employees on maternity leave.

• Program is funded from legislative appropriations with no employee contributions required; the Board may establish a claim processing division or contract with private insurance carriers for claims administration.

• The Board must establish a grievance procedure with a three-member panel to hear appeals on claim allowance, payment, eligibility, and other matters within 60 days of a written hearing request.

• Effective date: November 1, 2015.
