HB 1881 Summary

• Allows municipal police officers to elect to continue participation in the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System when performing law enforcement duties as direct county employees or under county service agreements, effective July 1, 2015.

• Expands the definition of "officer" and "member" under the System to include those employed by counties, and defines counties as "participating municipality employers" for contribution purposes.

• Requires counties employing officers under this election to make employer contributions at 13% of actual paid base salary, and officers continue making 8% employee contributions to the System.

• Modifies Section 50-110 to clarify that municipalities and counties may pay all or part of member contributions, and updates the contribution pickup provision to apply to compensation earned after July 1, 2015 rather than December 31, 1988.

• Declares an emergency provision for immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
