HB 1905 Summary

• Orders a legislative referendum to be submitted to Oklahoma voters at the next general election to amend 19 O.S. 2011, Section 131 regarding county officers.

• Establishes a 16-year term limit for county officers elected after the effective date, including court clerks, county sheriffs, county clerks, county assessors, county treasurers, and county commissioners.

• Provides that years in office need not be consecutive and years of service in multiple listed offices shall be combined when calculating the total years in office for term limit purposes.

• Exempts partial terms filled to address vacancies from the 16-year limitation but prohibits an official who has completed 16 years from serving any partial term thereafter.

• Allows officials already serving or elected to a term on the effective date to complete that term and serve an additional 16 years thereafter.
