HB 1907 Summary

• Amends 47 O.S. 2011, Section 11-801 to establish maximum speed limits on Oklahoma highways: 75 mph on turnpikes and rural interstate segments, 70 mph on four-lane divided highways and improved two-lane highways, and 65 mph on other locations.

• Sets speed limits for school buses at 55 mph on two-lane highways and 65 mph on multilane divided highways, turnpikes, and interstates; establishes 25 mph speed limits in marked school zones outside municipalities.

• Authorizes the Transportation Commission to prescribe maximum and minimum speeds for controlled-access highways and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority to regulate speeds on turnpikes after posting notice and Commissioner of Public Safety approval.

• Establishes speeding violation penalties ranging from $10 for 1-10 mph over the limit to $205 for 36+ mph over the limit, plus imprisonment of up to 10 days for first conviction, 20 days for second conviction within one year, and up to 6 months for third or subsequent convictions within one year.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2015.
