HB 2047 Summary

• CLEET must include minimum 4 hours of mental health training in basic law enforcement certification courses (effective November 1, 2007) and offer additional 4 hours on specific mental health issues for continuing education.

• CLEET must include minimum 6 hours of evidence-based sexual assault and sexual violence training in required courses by January 1, 2008, with instruction from certified sexual assault service providers.

• CLEET must establish minimum 8 hours of evidence-based domestic violence and stalking investigation training by January 1, 2012, developed with the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board and including instruction from expert victim advocates.

• CLEET must include minimum 4 hours of diversity training and racial sensitivity education in basic law enforcement certification by January 1, 2016, and offer additional 2 hours as continuing education.

• Municipalities with 65,000+ population and counties with 500,000+ population may operate separate basic law enforcement training academies if they meet Council approval criteria; effective date November 1, 2015.
