Chief administrative officers and members of governing bodies of public agencies, along with their relatives within the third degree of consanguinity or affinity, are prohibited from having direct or indirect interests in public construction contracts through stock ownership, partnership interest, or otherwise.

Prohibited interests may be allowed only if the public agency records show full and public disclosure of the interest and the contract was secured through competitive bidding following a public invitation to bid.

Contracts entered into in violation of this section shall be void.

Persons willfully violating this section are guilty of a felony and subject to removal from office.

The act takes effect immediately upon passage and approval, declared an emergency for preservation of public peace, health, and safety.
