Senate Bill 186 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma school grading system to add 8 bonus points for elementary schools that meet criteria for volunteer hours performed by parents and/or community members during the school year.

• Maintains existing grading scale based on 50% whole school performance, 25% whole school growth, and 25% bottom quartile growth, with additional bonus points for high schools and middle schools.

• High schools can earn up to 9 bonus points for graduation rates, college preparedness, standardized test performance, and industry certifications; middle schools can earn up to 10 bonus points for attendance, coursework participation, and dropout rates.

• Schools receive grades A+ through F based on combined point totals, with detailed grade scale ranging from 97-100% for A+ down to 59% and below for F.

• Effective date July 1, 2015, with emergency clause allowing immediate effect upon passage and approval.
