Senate Bill 204 Summary

• Amends 10A O.S. 2011, Section 2-3-101 regarding detention and confinement of juveniles under the Oklahoma Juvenile Code.

• Limits preadjudicatory or predisposition detention orders to 30 days, with court extensions of up to 60 additional days; allows further 60-day extension for murder charges if in best interests of justice.

• Permits temporary holding of juveniles charged with felonies in jails or law enforcement offices for up to 6 hours for identification and processing, or up to 24 hours for age determination when conditions are met, excluding travel time.

• Requires sight and sound separation between juveniles and adults in adult detention facilities, including separate spatial areas, program activities, and direct care staff.

• Requires juvenile detention facility staff to complete training programs provided or approved by the Office of Juvenile Affairs; effective November 1, 2015.
