SB 212 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma law to prohibit handgun license holders from carrying firearms on college, university, or technology center school property, except in vehicle parking areas, areas authorized by institutional policy, or areas with written consent from the institution's president or administrator.

• Requires boards of regents at Oklahoma State System of Higher Education institutions to publicly notify the campus community of firearm policies and procedures for requesting permission to carry weapons on campus.

• Allows institutions to notify the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation of violations by licensees within ten (10) days; violations may result in a $250 administrative fine and up to three (3) months license suspension after a hearing.

• Grants immunity from liability to colleges, universities, and technology centers that adopt policies authorizing weapon possession on campus, except for gross negligence or willful/wanton misconduct and workers' compensation claims.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2015.
