SB 220 Summary

• Amends Section 3311 of Oklahoma law to modify reserve peace officer certification and training requirements under the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).

• Reduces the basic reserve academy requirement from 240 hours to eligibility for a 360-hour full-time training academy for reserve officers with 2 years of active service.

• Establishes a transition pathway allowing reserve peace officers to become full-time officers after 5 years of service if they meet firearm qualification and endorsement requirements, requiring 8 hours legal training, full-time driver training, 16 hours defensive tactics, and 4 hours ethics.

• Applies to reserve officers only when transitioning within their current employing agency; officers changing agencies must complete full reserve-to-full-time training requirements.

• Effective date: November 1, 2015.
