Senate Bill No. 34 - Summary

• Allows online renewal of Class D driver licenses and identification cards, provided the immediately preceding issuance or renewal was completed in person by the applicant.

• Permits applicants under age 18 to sign and verify identification card and restricted license applications electronically when completing online applications, in addition to in-person or notarized options.

• Authorizes the Department of Public Safety to develop rules and procedures for online driver license renewals and alternative renewal procedures for persons unable to appear in person.

• Maintains restriction on mail and online renewal for licenses held by aliens, requiring those applicants to renew in person.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2015.
