Requires sheriff candidates to be CLEET-certified peace officers in good standing, in addition to existing requirements of 2-year Oklahoma residency, registered voter status, 25 years of age, and high school education.

Removes obsolete language regarding 2004 voter registration exception and clarifies that the person must be a registered voter "of the party whose nomination he or she seeks, or a registered Independent."

Mandates newly elected or appointed sheriffs complete a sheriff's administrative school within 12 months of taking office, developed by the Oklahoma Sheriff's Association and approved by CLEET.

Provides that any newly elected or appointed sheriff who fails to attend the sheriff's administrative school shall have their CLEET certification revoked.

Exempts current sheriffs and those who previously served as county sheriff prior to this statute's adoption from the new qualification requirements.

Becomes effective November 1, 2015.
