Oklahoma Senate Bill 525 Summary

• Amends unlawful carry restrictions to exclude vehicle parking areas from firearm prohibitions at government buildings, sports arenas, pari-mutuel wagering facilities, and schools.

• Allows handguns to be stored in locked vehicles on school property if secured and hidden from view in a locked motor vehicle when left unattended.

• Permits Department of Corrections employees with valid handgun licenses to keep firearms in locked metal storage containers in locked vehicles at state-owned prison facilities upon annual notification to the department.

• Authorizes licensed individuals to carry weapons on private school property if the private school governing entity adopts a policy permitting such carry, with immunity from liability except for gross negligence or willful misconduct.

• Effective November 1, 2015.
