Senate Bill 545 Summary

• Amends optometry licensing law to remove prohibitions on house-to-house solicitation and advertising of prices, discounts, and gifts if advertisements are not fraudulent, deceitful, or misleading.

• Adds two new exemptions establishing that optometrists renting space in commercial establishments (whether or not the establishment's primary income derives from selling optical goods) shall not be deemed unprofessional or unethical.

• Removes language from public policy section requiring optometrists' practices to be "free from any appearance of commercialism" and barring association with nonprofessional persons.

• Repeals 59 O.S. 2011, Sections 594 and 596 relating to retail sale of optometric goods.

• Makes language gender-neutral throughout and becomes effective November 1, 2015.
