OK SB55

Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 649 to define "corrections personnel" as any state or local employee with direct inmate contact, including Department of Corrections staff, vocational trainers, educators, and jail medical/meal providers.

Expands assault and battery on law enforcement (Section 649) to include any attempt to reach for or gain control of an officer's firearm, making it a misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in county jail and/or $500 fine.

Expands aggravated assault and battery on law enforcement (Section 650) to include physical contact with or attempts to gain control of an officer's firearm, making it a felony punishable by up to life imprisonment and/or up to $1,000 fine.

Creates enhanced felony penalties under Section 650(B) for aggravated assault and battery resulting in maiming of a law enforcement officer, with minimum 5 years to life imprisonment and/or up to $5,000 fine.

Becomes effective November 1, 2015; provisions are cumulative with existing law and do not supersede other statutes.
