Senate Bill 569 Summary

• Authorizes state motor license agents to administer electronic or online examinations of traffic laws knowledge (rather than only Department of Public Safety examiners) pursuant to rules established jointly by the Department of Public Safety and Oklahoma Tax Commission.

• Allows certified driver education instructors and school district instructors to become designated examiners for Class D driving skills tests with an initial certification fee of $1,000 and annual renewal fee of $500 (waivable for public school employees testing only their students).

• Designated examiners may charge a maximum fee of $25 per Class D driving skills examination and must undergo annual complete nationwide criminal history background checks at their own expense.

• Establishes that designated examiner certification fees shall be deposited to the Department of Public Safety Restricted Revolving Fund and are non-refundable if certification is denied, suspended, or revoked.

• Becomes effective January 1, 2016.
