Senate Bill 60 Summary

• Exempts the Oklahoma School for the Blind and the Oklahoma School for the Deaf from the state school grading system under 70 O.S. 2011, Section 1210.545.

• Maintains the existing school grading methodology for all other schools, which assigns grades A+ through F based on student performance, school growth, and bottom quartile growth.

• School grades are calculated from 50% whole school performance, 25% whole school growth, and 25% bottom quartile growth, with additional bonus points available for high school graduation rates, college preparation courses, and attendance metrics.

• Requires the State Department of Education to develop annual school site report cards including grades, improvement information, and return on investment indicators to be published on its website and distributed to parents.

• Takes effect July 1, 2015, with an emergency clause allowing immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
