Senate Bill 675 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. 2011, Section 1210.522 to allow students with individualized education programs (IEP) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to have appropriate statements on their IEP regarding assessment administration with or without accommodations or alternate assessments.

• Requires IEP team determination that any assessment approach is appropriate and meaningful for the student, with accommodations approved by the State Board of Education and documented in the student's file prior to assessment administration.

• Allows English language learners to be assessed using valid and reliable methods with acceptable accommodations or, when practicable, alternate assessments aligned to state assessments in the language and form most likely to yield accurate data of student knowledge.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2015 with emergency provisions allowing the act to take effect immediately upon passage and approval.
