Senate Bill 692 Summary

• Amends 57 O.S. 2011, Section 510 regarding duties and powers of the Director of the Department of Corrections over penal institutions

• Establishes qualifications for wardens requiring a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional-level work experience in corrections if not the incumbent warden or superintendent

• Sets minimum qualifications for correctional officers hired after November 1, 1995 including minimum age of 20 years, 30 semester hours of college or high school diploma with GED, good moral character, training program completion, merit system testing, and annual physical

• Authorizes the Director to suspend employees charged with rule violations or felonies pending investigation, with reinstatement and back pay if charges are not sustained

• Becomes effective November 1, 2015
