The office of the State Fire Marshal shall administer the Rural Fire Coordinator Program, with mandatory participation by any substate planning district that employed a rural fire coordinator prior to January 1, 2015.

Rural fire coordinators shall provide technical assistance to rural fire departments for equipment, communications systems, and training programs development.

Rural fire coordinators shall administer state and federal grant programs to assist rural fire departments in obtaining financial assistance to improve fire protection capabilities.

Rural fire coordinators shall coordinate rural fire department efforts with the State Fire Marshal during emergency fire suppression periods and certify rural fire departments in compliance with Section 901.56 of Title 19.

Rural fire coordinators are eligible to participate in the Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System through the office of the State Fire Marshal, effective November 1, 2015.
