SB 727 Summary

• Amends 59 O.S. 2011, Section 567.3a to permit Certified Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Certified Nurse-Midwives to order, administer, and dispense certain drugs under medical direction of a supervising physician.

• Authorizes Advanced Practice Registered Nurses to prescribe legend drugs and Schedules II through V controlled substances as defined by Board rules, subject to defined formulary restrictions.

• Permits receipt, signing for, and dispensing of professional samples to patients, but excludes general drug dispensing authority except as specifically authorized.

• Establishes supervision requirements through a State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision or State Board of Osteopathic Examiners-licensed physician who remains in compliance with applicable rules.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2015.
