SB 91 Summary

• Removes switchblade knives and knives with automatically-opening blades from the list of prohibited weapons under 21 O.S. 2011, Section 1272.

• Maintains prohibitions on firearms (pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles), daggers, bowie knives, dirk knives, sword canes, blackjacks, loaded canes, billies, hand chains, metal knuckles, and other offensive weapons.

• Preserves existing exceptions for hunting, fishing, educational and recreational purposes; weapons authorized by the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act; peace officers; judges with handgun licenses; and living history reenactments.

• Violations remain punishable as misdemeanors under Section 1276.

• Effective date is November 1, 2015.
