SR 39 Summary

• Celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Sister-State Agreement between Oklahoma and Taiwan, initiated on July 25, 1980.

• Acknowledges U.S.-Taiwan bilateral trade in goods and services reached $63 billion in 2012, with the U.S. as Taiwan's third-largest trading partner and Taiwan as the U.S. tenth-largest trading partner.

• Supports negotiations for a Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) and potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Taiwan and the U.S. to increase Oklahoma's exports and bilateral investment.

• Recognizes Taiwan's membership in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (effective November 1, 2012) and Taiwan's interest in participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

• Directs distribution of the resolution to the Honorable Louis Min-Jing Huang.
