HB 1478 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 1289.6 to regulate firearm carrying conditions under Oklahoma Self-Defense Act.

• Permits individuals carrying unconcealed weapons on their own property or property they legally control to not be disarmed or physically restrained by law enforcement officers absent reasonable and articulable suspicion of other criminal activity.

• Allows loaded and unloaded firearms to be carried openly without a handgun license for hunting, sporting events, military functions, police functions, entertainment performances, self-defense on controlled property, and other legitimate purposes.

• Permits unloaded firearms to be carried openly without a handgun license when traveling to or from residences, vehicles, firearms repair shops, gunsmith services, hunting areas, and firearms events.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2015.
