HB 1907 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma Statutes Section 11-801 to establish maximum speed limits on various highway types: 75 mph on turnpikes and rural interstate segments, 70 mph on four-lane divided highways and improved two-lane highways, and 65 mph on other locations

• Sets specific speed limits for school buses (55 mph on two-lane highways, 65 mph on multilane divided highways and interstates), school zones (25 mph unless posted otherwise), and state parks/wildlife refuges (35 mph)

• Authorizes the Transportation Commission to prescribe maximum and minimum speeds for controlled-access highways and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority to set speeds for turnpikes after Commissioner of Public Safety approval

• Establishes speeding violation penalties ranging from $10 for 1-10 mph over the limit to $205 for 36+ mph over the limit, plus imprisonment up to 10 days for first offense, 20 days for second offense within one year, and up to 6 months for third or subsequent offenses within one year

• Becomes effective November 1, 2015
