HB 2179 Summary

• Allows persons with a provisional driver license (under Section 6-212) to hold a commercial learner permit and operate commercial motor vehicles for behind-the-wheel training, in addition to those with valid Oklahoma driver licenses.

• Expands the commercial learner permit program to permit holders with a provisional driver license to satisfy commercial license requirements by holding the permit for at least 14 days before applying for a Class A, B, or C commercial license.

• Clarifies that commercial learner permits must be valid in conjunction with either a valid Oklahoma driver license or provisional driver license, and specifies that both documents must be in possession when operating a commercial motor vehicle.

• Effective date: November 1, 2015.
