HB 3027 Summary

• Allows any state resident meeting residency requirements to participate in extracurricular activities offered by their public school district of residence if their own school does not offer those activities.

• Establishes that local academic eligibility requirements must apply equally to all participants and cannot prohibit academically eligible district residents from participating in extracurricular activities.

• Permits school districts to charge participants a fee to recover the individual participant's portion of the cumulative cost of offering extracurricular activities.

• Authorizes schools to cooperate with each other to eliminate duplication, reduce costs, and maximize the number of extracurricular activities available to students in a geographic area.

• Repeals Section 5, Chapter 367, O.S.L. 2012 relating to powers and duties of the Statewide Virtual Charter School Board, effective November 1, 2016.
