Requires abortion providers to attempt to determine the presence of an embryonic or fetal heartbeat prior to performing or inducing an abortion, consistent with standard medical practice

Prohibits abortion providers from performing or inducing an abortion if an embryonic or fetal heartbeat is detected

Removes previous requirement that providers offer women the option to hear the heartbeat using a Doppler fetal heart rate monitor at pregnancies of 8+ weeks after fertilization

Providers are not in violation if they attempted to detect a heartbeat using a Doppler monitor, the heartbeat was not audible, and they offered to try again at a later date

Effective date: November 1, 2016
