Final protective orders must be granted or denied within 6 months of service on the defendant, unless all parties agree to keep a temporary protective order in effect

Victims retain the right to request a final protective order hearing at any time after the 6-month period has passed

Courts may schedule full hearings within 72 hours when an emergency ex parte order suspends child visitation rights due to physical violence or threats of abuse

Petitions for protective orders automatically renew every 14 days with new hearing dates until the defendant is served, and do not expire unless the petitioner fails to appear or request renewal
