Churches with A3 occupancy ratings may use their buildings for temporary overnight visitors for religious retreats, ministry programs, lock-in events, emergency sheltering, or accommodating displaced persons without changing their code occupancy rating

Temporary use is limited to no more than 7 consecutive days and no more than 40 days total per calendar year, unless the Governor declares a state of emergency

Churches must have either a third-party monitored automatic sprinkler system or hard-wired fire/smoke alarms with an exit door opening directly to a public way in overnight accommodation areas

Churches cannot charge for accommodations and will not be classified as bed and breakfasts, hotels, or motels for code purposes
