SB 1475 Summary

• Amends 59 O.S. 2011, Section 725.2 to regulate advertising by physicians and other licensed healthcare providers in Oklahoma.

• Requires all advertisements for health care services to identify the specific type of license (using designated letters or words such as M.D., D.O., D.D.S., D.C., D.P.M., or O.D.) held by the provider being advertised.

• Prohibits physicians (medical doctors and doctors of osteopathic medicine) from making deceptive or misleading statements regarding their training, education, skills, and licensure, including false claims about credentials they do not hold.

• Restricts medical doctors and osteopathic doctors from advertising as "board certified" unless the advertisement states the full name of the certifying board and the doctor is certified by ABMS, AOA, or a board requiring ACGME or AOA-approved postgraduate training.

• Designates licensed speech pathologists and audiologists as practitioners of the healing art for purposes of making referrals under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; effective November 1, 2016.
