SB 1482 Summary

• Creates the Oklahoma Department of Law Enforcement and Public Safety effective July 1, 2016, consolidating the Department of Public Safety, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, Office of the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal, and Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training.

• Requires a transition plan submitted to the Governor and legislative leaders by July 1, 2017, with final implementation by July 1, 2018, ensuring transferred employees retain current salaries, seniority, leave balances, and retirement benefits.

• Abolishes the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control Commission, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Commission, and State Fire Marshal Commission, transferring their functions to the new consolidated department.
