SB 1556 Summary

• Increases Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission from 9 to 10 appointed members, adding a representative with commercial building management experience from a statewide organization of commercial building owners and managers.

• Reduces non-elected Commission members from two to one, eliminating the Construction Industries Board appointee while retaining the State Fire Marshal or designee.

• Authorizes Commission to provide continuing education through associations and organizations, with reimbursement to groups for qualified instructors up to actual costs paid, without exceeding actual charges.

• Requires all state agencies, municipalities, and political subdivisions to accept continuing education credit hours granted by the Commission as equivalent credit for registration and license renewal requirements.

• Effective date: November 1, 2016.
