SB1564 Summary

• State Department of Education must submit a report to the Legislature by December 31, 2016 on existing broadband speeds and connections in all public schools, including capabilities from main buildings to classrooms

• Each school district must include in the report a plan to reach broadband throughput of one gigabit per 1,000 students by fiscal year 2020 through public and private efforts

• Each school district must plan to offer support and training programs in education technology tools for classroom teachers

• State Board of Education shall promulgate rules to implement the act

• Act becomes effective July 1, 2016, with an emergency declaration for immediate effect upon passage and approval
