Officers, investigators, or agents from specified state law enforcement agencies (OSBI, Narcotics Bureau, Wildlife Conservation, Horse Racing Commission, State Fire Marshal, Tourism and Recreation Department, Inspector General's Office, Child Support Services, Department of Corrections, Grand River Dam Authority, and district attorney offices) are entitled to retain custody and possession of their sidearm and badge upon retirement by reason of length of service.

Officers retiring due to disability may retain their sidearm and badge upon written approval from the applicable Director or bureau head.

If an officer dies while employed, the applicable Director may award custody of the sidearm and badge to the officer's spouse or next of kin.

Correctional officers, probation and parole officers, and internal affairs agents of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections are entitled to retain custody of their badge (but not sidearm) upon retirement by reason of length of service.

The act becomes effective November 1, 2015.
