HB 2185 Summary

• Reduces the distance threshold for child relocation notification from 75 miles to 35 miles from the child's principal residence for a period of 60 days or more.

• Requires persons with custody or visitation rights to provide written notice to other parties at least 60 days before a proposed relocation, or within 10 days if the relocation could not reasonably have been foreseen.

• Mandates that relocation notices include the new address, phone number, date of move, reasons for relocation, and proposed revised visitation schedule.

• Establishes that if a nonrelocating parent does not file a proceeding to prevent relocation within 30 days of receiving notice, the relocation is authorized.

• Effective November 1, 2017.
