Any person interested in a minor's welfare may initiate guardianship proceedings when the minor is at least 17 years and 6 months old and believed to be incapacitated or partially incapacitated.

A guardianship order may be requested to take effect immediately on the minor's eighteenth birthday.

A petitioner may submit a professional evaluation (conducted by a physician, psychologist, or other appropriate professional) conducted within 60 days prior to filing and request the court accept it in lieu of ordering additional evaluations.

The court has discretion to grant the request to accept the submitted evaluation instead of ordering a new one.

The act became effective November 1, 2017.
