SB 531 Summary

• Amends the Alarm, Locksmith and Fire Sprinkler Industry Act to expand definitions and update terminology throughout the statute, including "integrated security system," "lock," and "locksmith industry."

• Modifies the Alarm and Locksmith Industry Committee composition to ensure representation from burglar alarm, fire alarm, fire sprinkler, electronic access control, locksmith, closed circuit television, and nurse call system fields.

• Grants the Department of Labor authority to regulate advancements in technology that apply to the alarm, locksmith, and fire sprinkler industry.

• Allows businesses or persons licensed under the act to install, repair, or modify components of integrated security systems without obtaining multiple licenses, excluding commercial fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2017.
