SB718 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma Children's Code and Juvenile Code definitions to add "children's emergency resource center" and replace references to "emergency shelter" with this new term throughout multiple statutes

• Modifies definition of "day treatment" in juvenile code to include children's emergency resource centers and host homes providing food, clothing, shelter, hygiene products, tutoring, counseling, life-skills training, assessments, family reunification, respite care, and transportation services

• Updates school residency provisions (70 O.S. Section 1-113) to allow children placed in state-licensed children's emergency resource centers or state-operated emergency shelters to establish school residency in that location

• Changes custody and detention facility placement language to allow children in need of supervision to be placed in children's emergency resource centers or host homes as alternatives to traditional detention facilities

• Becomes effective November 1, 2017
