HB1042 Summary

• Extends the sunset date of the Opioid Overdose Fatality Review Board from July 1, 2025 to July 1, 2026, in accordance with the Oklahoma Sunset Law.

• Board operates within the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and conducts case reviews of opioid overdose deaths for persons 18 years of age or older.

• Board authority includes collecting and analyzing overdose death data, developing state and local databases, reviewing policies and practices of medical and law enforcement systems, and requesting records from multiple agencies.

• All discussions of individual cases and Board writings are privileged and not admissible in evidence; Board maintains confidentiality of information as required by state and federal law.

• Board must submit annual statistical reports on opioid overdose deaths and a public summary report by February 1 each year evaluating state efforts to prevent overdose deaths.
