Parents or guardians must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal immigration status when enrolling children in Oklahoma public or charter schools using one of five acceptable documents: U.S. passport, Permanent Resident Card, Oklahoma driver license, Social Security card, or birth certificate from the 50 states, Washington D.C., or five inhabited U.S. territories.

School districts must record the number of students whose parents or guardians could not provide proof of citizenship or legal immigration status due to lack thereof and submit this data to the State Department of Education through the Oklahoma student identification system.

The act does not inhibit any child from receiving education to which they are entitled under U.S. or Oklahoma law.

Districts are prohibited from recording individual student citizenship status, legal immigration status, or student data beyond the number unable to provide required documentation.

The act becomes effective July 1, 2025, with an emergency clause allowing it to take effect upon passage and approval.
