HB 1780 Summary

• Deletes the restriction on carrying firearms in government buildings used to conduct business with the public (current subsection A.1), allowing concealed and unconcealed firearm carry in these locations.

• Renumbers remaining prohibited firearm locations in subsection A to reflect the deletion, with courthouses/jails becoming paragraph 2, schools becoming paragraph 2, and sports venues/gambling establishments becoming paragraphs 3-4.

• Maintains all other firearm restrictions including prohibitions in courtrooms, detention facilities, public schools (except as allowed), professional sporting events, gambling establishments, and government-secured event venues.

• Preserves existing exceptions for law enforcement, judges, private investigators, elected officials, and other authorized personnel to carry firearms in courthouses and county facilities.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2025.
