Fire departments in Oklahoma must designate an individual to monitor fire sites for flare-ups and hot spots after extinguishment efforts conclude.

The designee assumes responsibility for observing and ensuring the safety of the affected area and does not need to be a professional or volunteer firefighter.

The designee must conduct site inspections at intervals not exceeding one hour for a minimum of 12 hours following the fire's extinguishment.

Monitoring responsibility may be shared among multiple individuals provided the one-hour inspection interval requirement is met.

Fire departments must leave at least one firefighter at the scene until a designee has been designated; the act becomes effective November 1, 2025.
