HB 1833 Summary

• Creates the Rethinking Paying Subminimal Wage to Persons with Disabilities Task Force, operating until November 1, 2027, to study and develop a plan to phase out subminimum wage practices under 14(c) certificate programs in Oklahoma.

• Task Force shall identify obstacles to phasing out subminimum wages and develop a comprehensive transition plan that includes competitive, integrated employment opportunities at minimum wage or above, alternative meaningful day programs for those unable or unwilling to transition, and an appropriate timeline for phase-out.

• Task Force consists of 11 members including the Secretary of Commerce and Workforce Development, one House and one Senate representative serving as co-chairs, disability advocates, employers, program directors, and representatives from relevant state agencies.

• Members receive no compensation but may receive travel reimbursement from private funds; Task Force must submit final report to the Governor and legislature by January 1, 2028.

• Act becomes effective November 1, 2025.
