Beginning with students entering ninth grade in the 2025-2026 school year, all public secondary school students in Oklahoma shall be assigned grade levels based on earned course credits: freshmen (0-6 credits), sophomores (7-12 credits), juniors (13-18 credits), and seniors (19+ credits).

Students who do not earn sufficient credits by the end of a school year to advance to the next credit category shall remain in their current category and not advance to another grade level.

School districts must include on all report cards for grades 9-12 the student's earned credits to date, grade level based on credits, outstanding graduation requirements needed, and anticipated graduation date.

The act becomes effective July 1, 2025, with an emergency clause allowing it to take effect immediately upon passage and approval.
