Oklahoma House Bill 1993 Summary

• Amends Section 540A of Oklahoma's criminal code regarding eluding peace officers in motor vehicles

• First offense: misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year county jail and/or fine of $100-$2,000

• Second or subsequent offense: misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year county jail and/or fine of $500-$5,000

• Eluding officers in manner endangering others: felony punishable by 1-5 years Department of Corrections custody and/or fine of $1,000-$5,000

• Causing accident with great bodily injury while eluding: felony punishable by 1-5 years Department of Corrections custody and/or fine up to $5,000; defines "great bodily injury" as injury creating substantial risk of death or causing serious permanent disfigurement

• Effective date: November 1, 2025
